Don’t miss the world premiere of my documentary short “Home Sweet House” tomorrow night in the main auditorium at the Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport Ave.). It is showing along with four other short documentaries about Chicago in a series called Chicago 360. It’s $9.25 to get in, and it should last about 90 minutes including a Q&A after the show. It all starts at 7:30pm.

Below is a brief synopsis of the film and a short teaser that I posted back in February. Hope to see you there!

Synopsis:
The international phenomenon of house music owes its existence to the basement clubs of 1980’s Chicago, but many Chicagoans are unaware of their city’s underground legacy. ‘Home Sweet House’ reveals a thriving Chicago house scene hidden in plain sight. From a footworking battle on the South Side to a night out at a legendary North Side nightclub, the film takes viewers to the city’s most hallowed house hotspots. Interviews with DJs, promoters, producers, dancers, and record store clerks-all set to a soundtrack of authentic underground Chicago tracks-aim to answer the ultimate question that surrounds this legendary subculture: Why Chicago?

I recently finished a documentary short about the Chicago house music scene entitled “Home Sweet House.” It reveals the stories behind Chicago legends like Gramaphone Records, Smartbar, ghetto house, and the juke scene using interviews with DJs including Justin Long, DJ Colette, Ken ECB, Frankie J, Santiago, Andy “Mixin” Moy, and more.

The film is showing as part of the “Chicago 360 v.4” series, presented by Split Pillow. Check out the events section for upcoming screenings as well as info on a premiere party I’ll be DJing.

To gear up for the release of the movie, I’ll be having some special guests on “The Fringe w/ DJ Sangre.” Tune in Monday, 5/18, when I’ll be joined by special guest Karl Almaria, who provided an exclusive mix for the film.

Then, be sure to tune in again on Monday, 5/25, when I’ll be co-hosting the legends of Chicago’s juke scene: Rashad, Spin, Gant-man, and Traxman. Both Gant-man and Traxman are featured in the film.

As always, The Fringe w/ DJ Sangre airs Monday nights from 10pm to 11:30pm (CDT) on 89.3 WNUR-FM in Chicago and at www.wnur.org around the globe.
